Top Five Books I Read In 2018

Even though I didn’t read nearly as many books as I typically read in a years time, I did read a few really awesome books. I rounded up my top five favorite books that really stuck with me all year.

35542451

Girl, Wash Your Face by Rachel Hollis

This was one of the first books I read this year and even after months, I still refer back to it. I don’t read self help books but Rachel was super motivating and I really enjoyed it and would recommend even if you don’t grab a lot of non fiction reads.

38750491

doll eyes. by Jessyca Thibault

I don’t read a lot of poetry but I adore all of Jessyca’s books. I originally read all three of her books on Kindle but I loved them so much I bought paperback copies. Even though her books aren’t as well known as the mainstream poetry books that you seen on every other Instagram picture, Jessyca’s poems are just as good, if not better.

38746485

Becoming by Michelle Obama

Okay, to be honest, I haven’t completely finished Becoming yet. But I only have a couple hours left in the audiobook so I’ll probably finish it tonight and it’ll totally count as read in 2018.

Anyway, I was so excited for this book and it 100% lived up to my own hype. It’s pretty lengthy and it’s taken me a while to get through it but I’ve loved every second. I listened to it on audiobook, which Michelle narrates herself, and it’s amazing as an audiobook. Michelle is a great writer and an equally as great narrator.

36373564

The Simple Wild by K.A. Tucker

After a MAJOR two year reading slump that totally destroyed by love of reading, The Simple Wild brought me back to life. I read the whole book in 24 hours and couldn’t put it down. I loved the writing, the setting was amazing, and the characters were so well written. K.A. Tucker has become my reading saving grace the past two years and I can always count on her books renewing my love of reading.

41957126

Verity by Colleen Hoover

Is this my new favorite CoHo book? Perhaps.

I’m sure y’all know Colleen Hoover is my favorite author and I could go on and on about how much I love her books. I could spend hours talking about how much It Ends With Us means to me. But Verity has stormed into my life and it won’t leave. I’ll admit it took me a few chapters to get into it but as soon as I did, read it in one sitting. I couldn’t put this book down and it blew my mind. I didn’t know what to expect when I started it and seen a handful of people on Twitter and Instagram freaking out over it. It wasn’t long before I was freaking out over Verity and even though its been a couple weeks since I read it, I’m still freaking out over it. I’ve even had to stop myself from rereading it already.

Review: Slammed by Colleen Hoover

13372690Slammed by Colleen Hoover

Published January 4th 2012

Following the unexpected death of her father, 18-year-old Layken is forced to be the rock for both her mother and younger brother. Outwardly, she appears resilient and tenacious, but inwardly, she’s losing hope.

Enter Will Cooper: The attractive, 21-year-old new neighbor with an intriguing passion for slam poetry and a unique sense of humor. Within days of their introduction, Will and Layken form an intense emotional connection, leaving Layken with a renewed sense of hope.

Not long after an intense, heart-stopping first date, they are slammed to the core when a shocking revelation forces their new relationship to a sudden halt. Daily interactions become impossibly painful as they struggle to find a balance between the feelings that pull them together, and the secret that keeps them apart.

Slammed was 100x better than I expected and I expected it to be great so my mind is blown right now.
I laughed, I cried, this book had it all for me. I did predict a thing or two but honestly, it doesn’t matter. I loved this book and I enjoyed reading it so much.
I loved Will and Layken’s relationship. Even though it moved so fast, it was genuine and organic. It felt real.
I loved how this book was about more than just Lake finding a boyfriend. The story was about so much more than just a romance relationship. It was about family and friendship and Lake learning how to deal with what life is throwing at her. It was about her finding friendship and opening up to others and knowing that she didn’t have to go through everything alone.
Overall, I read this book just one day and I loved every second of it. I have yet to read a Colleen Hoover book that I haven’t loved but Slammed was extra amazing.

ARC Review: It Ends with Us by Colleen Hoover

27362503It Ends with Us by Colleen Hoover

Expected publication: August 2nd 2016

Lily hasn’t always had it easy, but that’s never stopped her from working hard for the life she wants. She’s come a long way from the small town in Maine where she grew up. She graduated from college, moved to Boston, and started her own business. So when she feels a spark with a gorgeous neurosurgeon named Ryle Kincaid everything in Lily’s life suddenly seems almost too good to be true.

Ryle is assertive, stubborn, and maybe even a little arrogant. He’s also sensitive, brilliant and has a total soft spot for Lily; and the way he looks in scrubs certainly doesn’t hurt. Lily can’t get him out of her head, but Ryle’s complete aversion to relationships is disturbing. Even as Lily finds herself becoming the exception to his no dating rule, she can’t help but wonder what made him that way in the first place.

As questions about her new relationship overwhelm her, so do thoughts of Atlas Corrigan, her first love and a link to the past she left behind. He was her kindred spirit, her protector. When Atlas suddenly reappears everything Lily has built with Ryle is threatened.

With this bold and deeply personal novel Colleen Hoover delivers a heart-wrenching story that breaks exciting new ground for her as a writer. Combining a captivating romance with a cast of all too human characters, “It Ends with Us” is an unforgettable tale of love that comes at the ultimate price.

I loved this book from very first page and even though I knew I was jumping on an emotional roller coaster (what CoHo book isn’t an emotional roller coaster?!), I never could have prepared myself for how this book would change my life. This book is everything I expected from Colleen Hoover but it’s also nothing I expected.
This book showed me a perspective that I never seen before and showed me new ways of looking at things. It’s honest and real and raw. Reading It Ends with Us was more than just reading a book. It was an experience and I’ve learned so much from it. I’ve never cried so much while reading a book (and I’ve never cried while writing a review but here I am, crying while writing this review).
This is probably the most meaningful book I’ve ever read.

If you read one book this year, read It Ends with Us.

Top 5 New Adult Books

I’m a big fan of the New Adult genre. I think it has a ton of potential and is the perfect in-between of Young Adult and Adult. I love how it can explore new settings that YA usually doesn’t. However, I’m very picky with NA and I’ve only read a handful that I enjoyed. So today I’m bring you my top 5 favorite New Adult books. I highly recommend these books and if you’re looking to get into the genre, these books would be perfect to start with.

5.November 9 by Colleen Hoover

The Edge of Never is actually the first NA book I read and it was my love for this book that drove me to explore the NA genre. I love the characters in this book and the plot was so amazing.

3.Wait for You by J. Lynn

I’ve read this book twice and I still can’t get enough of this book. I fangirled so hard while reading Wait for You.

2.Hey Sunshine by Tia Giacalone

I loved this book so, so much. As soon as I finished it, I wanted to reread it. I loved the plot and the characters. The writing was amazing. I could gush about this book forever.

1.Ugly Love by Colleen Hoover

I don’t even know where to begin with this review. This book is so amazing and I loved it so much.
I’ve loved every book that I’ve read from Colleen so I knew when I started Too Late that I would love it. But what I didn’t know was that I would be staying up until 2am reading this book because I couldn’t put it down. This book is such a wild ride and has such complex characters. This book brought out every single emotion in me.
I think what really takes this book to the next level is the characters. They’re so complex and interesting and different. You’ll love some characters and hate others but either way, you’ll be sucked into this emotional rollercoaster.
