Stranger Things Book Tag

Welcome to the weekly Friday Tag! This week I got to stay at home all week (not read because I was in a slump as well as on the hunt for a new job) and basically try and get my life together and this wedding planned as much as I could. As well as catching up on some blog posts (shameless mention for you to look into previous posts). But anyway, I noticed tons of you loved the Netflix book tag so I figured this week I’ll post something similar. Stranger Things is one of Netflix’s original series that is absolutely FABULOUS. Go binge it if you haven’t yet, but it’s so great and I found this tag on youtube (here’s a link to the original video) and thought I’d bring it into the blog!

1. EPIC INTRO. The opening sequence of Stranger Things is amazing and really grabs your attention. Name a book that grabbed your attention from the first page.

Steelheart by Brandon Sanderson.
Steelheart has to be one of my favorite books , and it absolutely had me hooked from the first page. Brandon Sanderson is an absolute genius and I couldn’t have asked for a better opening. I’m still fending off finishing the series because it’s such a bittersweet moment.

2. DUNGEONS & DRAGONS. Name a fantasy world you would like to experience yourself.

The Spring and The Night Court
A Court of Thorns and Roses & A Court of Mist and Fury  by Sarah J. Maas is probably one of the most immersive fantasy worlds I’ve ever been in. I absolutely adore the Spring and Night court and would LOVE to see then and what they’re like. My imagination goes wild when I read this series and to be honest, the anticipation for A Court of Wings and Ruin is absolutely killing me.

3. SQUAD GOALS. When Eleven met Mike, Dustin and Lucas it was a *mostly* perfect team. Name your favourite bookish group of friends.

Cinder, Iko, Kai , Scarlet, Wolf, Cress, Thorne, Winter and Jacin.
The Lunar Chronicles by Marissa Meyer has by far one of the best crews ever. It was hard for me not to choose the crew from Six of Crows because they’re near and dear to me, but I think Marissa Meyer did a wonderful job of building this whole team through a series of books, where as Six of Crows you were given them all at the same time.

4. ABC’s & CHRISTMAS LIGHTS. Joyce Byers goes mad with grief after Will goes missing. Name your favourite mentally unhinged character.

Winter by Marissa Meyer
So unfortunately I’m going to use The Lunar Chronicles again because I love Winter and how out of her mind she is, and how she had all this whimsey, and no one understands her except herself and Jacin.

5. THE UPSIDE DOWN. Name a book that was the opposite of what you expected.

Everything, Everything by Nicola Yoon was most definitely something I didn’t expect. I’m not one for contemporaries but I read Everything, Everything in one sitting. I couldn’t stop reading and completely devoured the whole book. There was just something entrancing about it, And I can’t wait to pick up The Sun is Also A Star.

6. MAD SCIENTISTS. Dr. Brenner likes to get freaky with humanity. Name the freakiest dystopian government you can think of.

The Bone Season by Samantha Shannon
This book/series has the FREAKIEST dystopian government. There’s two governments actually. Scion, which is the government for humans and then there’s a second government for clairvoyants where our main character Paige gets kidnapped and taken to due to her rarity of voyant type. And the society down in Oxford (which mind you is a underground ruin due to the fact that this book takes place in 2059) is ten times worse than Scion London. Voyants are paired with basically keepers who they live with until they become red jackets. Anyway, I’m getting way to into this, but voyants and keepers are almost like a slave to a master so violence isn’t uncommon. So yeah, probably one of the most dystopian governments I’ve ever read of.

7. DEMOGORGON. Name a scary bookish creature that you would not want to come through your walls.

Brandon Sanderson in The Final Empire (or Mistborn as most people call it) writes about these wraiths that take the skin of dead people and are basically these scarecrow-esque zombie thing. And honestly, if I came across that thing, I’d soil myself and just cry because I think that’s probably one of the scariest thing I’ve ever read.

8. CLIFFHANGER ENDING. name a book that left you wanting more.

Oh dear god there are so many.

Frozen Tides by Morgan Rhodes had me in a tizzy
Crooked Kingdom by Leigh Bardugo wasn’t really a cliff hanger but I was upset that it was over
A Darker Shade of Magic by V.E. Schwab had me desperately seeking for more
and I was cursing the gods…or the author because Empire of Storms and A Court of Mist and Fury were agonizing endings.

And that’s all I’ve got! Come back next Friday for another tag!

Netflix Book Tag

Ah, it’s Friday again! My designated tag day … I guess. And Tuesday I was laid off from my job and so I’ve been spending a lot of time watching the good ‘ole Netflix…while applying to jobs of course and I thought why not search the internet for those lovely bookish people who created a booktag based on Netflix. And by golly I found it! So if you want to see the original Netflix Tag, you can find it here.

1. Recently Watched:The last book you finished reading.
The last book I finished reading was a lovely re-read of a 800+ book named Harry Potter and The Order of The Phoenix by J.K. Rowling

2. Top Picks: A book/books that have been recommended to you based on book you have previously read.
I guess I’ll give a Top 3 for these. Taylor always recommends CoHo books to me especially I feel like she’s told me to read November 9 multiple times. The Female of The Species by Mindy McGinnis, and The Demon King by Cinda Williams Chima

3. Recently Added: The last book you bought
Moon Chosen by P.C. Cast

4. Popular on Netflix: Books that everyone knows about. (2 you’ve read and 2 you have read or have no interest in reading)
Read : Crooked Kingdom by Leigh Bardugo
Three Dark Crowns by Kendare Blake

No Interest : The Selection Series by Kiera Cass
Anna and The French Kiss by Anna Perkins

5. Comedies: A funny book
Bossy Pants by Tina Fey is absolutely great. It’s hilarious and nothing short of what you’d think a book written by Tina Fey would be like.

6. Dramas: A character who is a drama queen/king.
Chaol WestfallThrone of Glass Series  I feel like he is one of the biggest drama kings. There’s just something about Chaol that I love but honestly, he is quite dramatic.

7. Animated: A book with cartoons on the cover
So I’m going to list a few because I’m in love with these comics and obviously they have cartoons on the cover!
Saga by Brian K. Vaughn and Fiona Staples
Ms. Marvel  by G. Willow Wilson and Adrian Alphona
Rat Queens by Kurtis J. Wiebe and Roc Upchurch
Lumberjanes by Noelle Stevenson, Grace Ellis, Shannon Watters, Brooke A. Allen

8. Watch it again: A book/book series that you want to re-read
Falling Kingdoms Series  by Morgan Rhodes. This book series is one I’ll lovingly read over and over and over again. Although not finished, when it is, I plan to marathon these until the day I die.

9. Documentaries: A non-fiction book you’d recommend to everyone
Furiously Happy : A Funny Book About Horrible Things by Jenny Lawson.  This book focuses on Jenny’s anxiety, depression and all sorts of other emotional issues. If you suffer from any of these, I highly recommend it. She literally writes about aspects of things I understand and twists it to the point where you’re laughing about it.

10. Action and Adventure: An action packed book
Winter by Marissa Meyer is such an action packed book I love it. It felt like every other chapter there was something going on such suspense throughout the whole book, it was indeed action packed through and through.

11. New Releases: A book that just came out or will be coming out soon that you can’t wait to read.
Caraval by Stephanie Garber comes out this month and I’m so excited for it! The hype around it is fantastic and amazing and I can’t wait to read it.

Stranger Things Book Tag!

I’ve been waiting to figure out what to do for my next tag, and I think the hype around Season 2 of Stranger Things and how it’s around christmas time, made me want to do this tag. I’m highly anticipating it’s return and I’m super excited for it. A big thanks to Sarah Sunbeemz for making this tag.

1. EPIC INTRO. The opening sequence of Stranger Things is amazing and really grabs your attention. Name a book that grabbed your attention from the first page.
17675462The Raven Boys by Maggie Stiefvatter.
Her lyricism and amazing writing made it really hard not to get hooked from the first sentence onward.

2. DUNGEONS & DRAGONS. Name a fantasy world you would like to experience yourself.
18490585I fell in love with Mistborn by Brandon Sanderson and although an older world in the means of society, I think that the magic system would be too cool to just pass on.

3. SQUAD GOALS. When Eleven met Mike, Dustin and Lucas it was a *mostly* perfect team. Name your favourite bookish group of friends.
28260587Empire of Storms by Sarah J. Maas has a great band of characters and even has some enemies tag along with the good friends. I love it.

4. ABC’s & CHRISTMAS LIGHTS. Joyce Byers goes mad with grief after Will goes missing. Name your favourite mentally unhinged character.
23395680Illuminae by Amie Kaufman and Jay Kristoff. OH MY GOODNESS. A.I.D.A.N. was completely crazy. I literally was on the edge of my seat the whole time because of A.I.D.A.N.

5. THE UPSIDE DOWN. Name a book that was the opposite of what you expected.
Rebel Belle by Rachel Hawkins fell flat for me. I knew it was about a girl who ends up being a paladin, but I thought it would get way more sci-fi and have stronger characters, I was most definitely expecting a Buffy vibe and got….nothing.

6. MAD SCIENTISTS. Dr. Brenner likes to get freaky with humanity. Name the freakiest dystopian government you can think of.
The society in Bone Season was really screwed up in my eyes. I didn’t really much enjoy the society it was based it. It’s kind of hard to explain but the book is really REALLY great. I also don’t want to go too much into the society in fear that it will give some plot points away.

7. DEMOGORGON. Name a scary bookish creature that you would not want to come through your walls.
233682I literally could not sleep for a week.

8. CLIFFHANGER ENDING. name a book that left you wanting more.
22299763Not that there was a cliffhanger, I jut wasn’t ready for this duology to end. #ripheart.

Coffee Book Tag!

Hello everyone! I’m going to be doing the Coffee Book Tag! I’m sitting down this morning and looking for some posts to do (other than my extremely long list of reviews) while drinking my very yummy coffee, so I figured…why not do the Coffee Book Tag that I found all over the place in booktube. I found the original tag here on youtube, and I love all the questions!

1. Black: Name a series that’s tough to get into but has hardcore fans.

10964Okay, don’t kill me you diehard Outlander fans, and what not. But, I’ve tried a couple times to get into Outlander and it’s SUPER HARD! But I know there’s SO MANY of you who absolutely adore this series. But don’t you worry, I’m not giving up on you!

2. Peppermint mocha: Name a book that gets more popular during the winter or a festive time of year.
I feel like I’m not the only one who re-reads Harry Potter during the cold months of the year. And I’m pretty sure there’s a Harry Potter Read-A-Thon around winter time as well. And honestly, there’s something cozy about reading Harry Potter snuggled up in blankets while it snows outside.

3. Hot chocolate: What is your favorite children’s book?

The Chronicles of Narnia was a book I picked up for summer reading and it all snowballed from there. I love love LOVE the Narnia series and I actually started re-reading it recently. And I have to say, Narnia is such a magical place, and I absolutely love that this was one of my favorite series as a kid.

4. Double shot of espresso: Name a book that kept you on the edge of your seat from start to finish.
I mean…COME ON THIS IS SUCH A GREAT BOOK. I literally could not stop reading and it was written so well and in a way where you think you know what’s going on but then everything gets turned on it’s head. I really REALLY great book.

5. Starbucks: Name a book you see everywhere.
The Diabolic is something I’ve been seeing everywhere lately and I cannot wait to get my hands on it!

6. That hipster coffee shop: Give a book by an indie author a shoutout.
I want to give a shout out to Tia Giacalone. She sent us a copy of her book Hey Sunshine when we were still a bit shakey on our feet as a blog. She sent us Hey Sunshine and Taylor and I both loved it! Hey Sunshine has a sequel as well as a third book on the way! Please check out Tia and her books they’re well worth the read!

7. Oops! I accidentally got decaf: Name a book you were expecting more from.
I was expecting SO MUCH MORE from Passenger by Alexandra Bracken. I thought pirates and time travel would be so much cooler but…it kind of fell flat for me.

8. The perfect blend: Name a book or series that was both bitter and sweet but ultimately satisfying.
thone of glass cover
Oh my goodness, this series has absolutely everything. All the highs and all the lows. This book has it all! I absolutely love Throne of Glass and it’s a GREAT series. Action, Romance, Wit, Mystery. It’s great.

And there you have it! The Coffee Book Tag!

Pokemon Go! Book Tag

Disclaimer:  Pokemon Go belongs to Niantic and Nintendo, please don’t sue me.

This amazing tag was created by Aentee @ Read at Midnight . What a great idea for a tag!

Pokemon-Tag-01StartersI have a few books that started my love for reading. When I was a kid it’d have to be a tie between Matilda by Roald Dahl and Harry Potter and The Sorcerer’s Stone by J.K. Rowling. But as I was growing up I didn’t read much through middle school/high school but coming back into reading I have to give credit to Ready Player One by Ernest Cline.

An iconic classic I’ll always love I think, I’ll have to give this one to Of Mice and Men by John Steinbeck. A true classic that will never get old in my life.

I think the hype around Passenger by Alexandra Bracken as well as Daughter of Smoke and Bone trilogy by Laini Taylor had me lose interest in them. I read both of them, but I don’t think I enjoyed them as much as I would, had there been no crippling hype around them.

I feel like I’m going to get a lot of hate for this, but, I’d like to lump all of John Green’s books into  this. I just felt like I was reading the same book over and over again, I literally ready 4 of his books and The Fault in Our Stars stood out the most but my goodness Paper Towns and Looking for Alaska felt like the same book to me, I tried reading Will Greyson, Will Greyson but I gave up.

Outlander by Diana Gabaldon is something that literally scares me when I stare at it sitting on my shelf. I have yet to start it but I’ve always wanted to but knowing how big that series is…it’s gonna be a bit before I gather the courage to tackle it.

Pet Semetary by Stephen King. Hands down the scariest book I’ve ever read. And I read it mostly at night for some reason and that was the most stupid thing I’ve ever done. His writing is so consuming and you get thrown into the story and WHAM you’re scared into not sleeping for days.

Oh god, I think my ultimate OTP is Aelin and Rowan from Throne of Glass series. They’re always a a pairing that makes me happy that and Feyre and Rhys. I am trash for OTP pairings I literally cannot get enough, I could keep going : Kaz and Inej , Matthaias and Nina. Literally, I AM TRASH FOR OTPs

Any of the Reckoners Trilogy by Brandon Sanderson were books I sat down and read in one to three sittings. They were such great and action packed reads I needed more.

I don’t think I really know many books that get spin-offs…so I don’t think I can really choose one for this.

OMG Shadow and Bone by Leigh Bardugo. I had trouble getting into this book and once I started it I couldn’t stop and was very much so surprisingly awesome!

The Lunar Chronicles. There was so much hype around this series, and I’m still working my way through it but my goodness it’s so good! I’m really excited to read Cress and Winter!

This was an easy one. The Puffin in Bloom classics collection. I own A Little Princess in this edition and it’s the most amazing collectors classic book I have, it’s absolutely gorgeous!

Caraval is definitely in one of the top slots for a debut novel I’m super excited for. The premise seems really cool, and I’m pretty sure this book is seriously right up my alley. It comes out January 31st 2017 and it’s by Stephanie Garber.

Sarah J. Maas. That is all. Just kidding! This author is amazing! I got the pleasure of meeting her once and she was absolutely phenomenal. A truly amazing person. Her writing is great and enthralling and really just sucks you in. Action, Romance, Betrayal, Slow Burning at times, her books have it all. Each one of her books being a true work of art.

A Million Worlds With You by Claudia Gray is a book I’ve been looking forward to for what feels like forever. I fell in love with the Firebird trilogy the moment I finished Ten Thousand Pieces of You. Which was the book I read after Ready Player One which kept my momentum going after picking up such a great book, so naturally I’ve been keeping my eye on this series and from the moment I knew this was a trilogy I couldn’t stop thinking about how all of this will conclude.

Books That Feature Time Travel | Top Five Wednesday

Top 5 Wednesday was created by Lainey at gingerreadslainey on YouTube.

This week is probably one of my favorite topic weeks for Top 4 Wednesday…EVER! It’s the topic of time travel, and it’s one of my favorite things to read about. I must say I haven’t read a lot of time travel books, BUT I can list the ones I have and then the ones I would like to read. Here we go!

1. A Thousand Pieces of You by Claudia Gray
I talk about this book A LOT. And this book has it all. Romance, Time Travel, Parallel Universes, Action, Humor. I read this book at the beginning of my book blogging and reading journey and I have yet to stop loving this book.

2. Landline by Rainbow Rowell
Not your typical time travel book but still enjoyable! I liked the way Rowell used the phone as the source of time travel and a rotary phone at that. An all around quick and enjoyable read.

3. Passenger by Alexandra Bracken *WANT TO READ*

4. Timebound by Rysa Walker *WANT TO READ*

5. Doon by Carey Corp *WANT TO READ*

Please let me know if you’ve read any of the last three books and what you did and didn’t like about the time travel aspects of this book. I love the idea of time travel and most definitely need to read more books that feature time travel.

I’ve actually read so many great books this year! It’s a three-way tie between Me Before You by Jojo Moyes, To All the Boys I’ve Loved Before by Jenny Han, and Throne of Glass by Sarah J. Mass. I really love those books.

I can’t think of any good answers to this one!

“Dumbledore says people find it far easier to forgive others for being wrong than for being right.” – Harry Potter and the Half Blood Prince. I don’t remember what character said this, I think it might have been Hermione, but I think this is a really great quote.

My mind went completely blank on this question!

To All the Boys I’ve Loved Before by Jenny Han.  I wasn’t sure I would like this book but I loved it so much. I can’t wait for the next book to be released in May.

J.K. Rowling or V.E. Schwab.

This is such a weird question to me! I just don’t understand why people pair genres with weather. If you do this, please comment below and help me understand!

Harry Potter! I’ve read this series at least once every year since I first read it.

Besides Harry Potter, I really liked the ending to the Blood of Eden series by Julie Kagawa. It felt complete and I couldn’t have asked for much more.

Letting Ana Go by Anonymous. I highly recommend this book to everyone, especially girls.

Besides Harry Potter, I really think everyone should read Daughter of Smoke & Bone by Laini Taylor. It’s just an amazing book that really stands out in the massive ocean that is literature.

Blogs that we nominate!
