Brie hates the Fae and refuses to have anything to do with them, even if that means starving on the street. But when her sister is sold to the sadistic king of the Unseelie court to pay a debt, she’ll do whatever it takes to get her back—including making a deal with the king himself to steal three magical relics from the Seelie court.

Gaining unfettered access to the Seelie court is easier said than done. Brie’s only choice is to pose as a potential bride for Prince Ronan, and she soon finds herself falling for him. Unwilling to let her heart distract her, she accepts help from a band of Unseelie misfits with their own secret agenda. As Brie spends time with their mysterious leader, Finn, she struggles to resist his seductive charm.

Caught between two dangerous courts, Brie must decide who to trust with her loyalty. And with her heart.

I’m not sure how to feel about this book! I had a hard time really getting into it. I’m not quite sure why. Maybe Brie was a difficult character for me to get behind because I saw so many red flags between Ronan and Finn that it bothered me that she even considered both of them as someone she wanted to be romantically involved with was a bit beyond me.

I think the plot and the world building was really good, it kept me going. But I think the characters for me made this book really go above and beyond. Which is why I feel like I really need to move on from the YA genres. They’re getting really hard for me to read (as seen from me reading The Inheritance Games) I’ve been really enjoying the stories, but the connection that I love in characters is lacking. Would I recommend this to someone who is looking for a good YA Fantasy? Sure. I think it ticks all the boxes for a great YA Fantasy read. But as a reader, this genre is one I think I’m sadly moving on from.

I’d give it one caveat though, If you’re picking this book up, there’s a LOT of similarities to ACOTAR. Some of which I was a little iffy on in terms of questioning how close this was in terms of a lot of the elements of the book. Keep an eye out for them, let me know how you feel about it because I know some people who haven’t been completely loving this book have come up with this as one of the reasons for not loving it.

I think if I keep picking up YA books. I might try and review in the lens of “I’m reviewing this for a younger reader” and not so much how I 100% feel about it.

Overall though, These Hollow Vows is a pretty good YA read, keeps the plot going and could be a great read for the right reader.
