Diverse Characters | Top 5 Wednesday
Top 5 Wednesday was created by Lainey at gingerreadslainey on YouTube.
This week’s Top 5 Wednesday topic is favorite diverse characters. I’m very passionate about diversity in books, especially YA. So I’m super excited for this week’s post.
5. The characters from Rat Queens by Kurtis J. Wiebe & Roc Upchurch
All the characters in this graphic novel series are very diverse in race and sexuality.
4.Kamala Khan from Ms. Marvel (Marvel NOW!) by G. Willow Wilson & Adrian Alphona
Kamala is Muslim and though out the series, her culture is incorporated and talked about.
3. Allison Sekemoto from The Immortal Rules by Julie Kagawa
Allison is Asian (Japanese, I think) and not only is she an amazing character, the art under the dust jackets has an Asian model and I think that’s really great.
2. Lara Jean and her sisters from To All the Boys I’ve Loved Before by Jenny Han
Lara Jean and her sisters are half Korean and I love how much Jenny Han incorporated their Korean customs and traditions into both books in this series.
1.Madeline from Everything, Everything by Nicola Yoon
Madeline is half Japanese & half African-American. Several times though out the book she describes herself and I love that.
