In a land without magic, where the king rules with an iron hand, an assassin is summoned to the castle. She comes not to kill the king, but to win her freedom. If she defeats twenty-three killers, thieves, and warriors in a competition, she is released from prison to serve as the king’s champion. Her name is Celaena Sardothien. The Crown Prince will provoke her. The Captain of the Guard will protect her. But something evil dwells in the castle of glass–and it’s there to kill. When her competitors start dying one by one, Celaena’s fight for freedom becomes a fight for survival, and a desperate quest to root out the evil before it destroys her world.

Well, I absolutely devoured this book. I had to take a break in the middle due to work and life, but I picked it up and finished it within two days. Celaena is so great. Although I got slightly annoyed with her semi-instalove with a certain someone. But all I have to say on that matter is that I’m totally team Chaol.

But I absolutely loved this book. Especially the first half but towards the end I was like screaming at my book. I love love LOVE the character development in this book and how Maas gives everyone a deliberate purpose for being in the story. (Although I’m hoping to see Dorian’s brother in the rest of the series at some point). But, I enjoyed Celaena’s witty-ness and sometimes even had me laughing throughout the book. I kind of liked her at times/kind of hated her.

I keep rounding back to Chaol, he was my favorite. Even though he didn’t change too much from beginning to end, he kind of was a static character but I liked that about him. CAN WE PLEASE TALK ABOUT RITHFOLD AND ENDOVIER THOUGH!?

This was like my favorite elements of the book. The setting. The setting gave the most awesome magical/fantasy setting. I loooooved it. I loved the deep descriptions Maas goes through with painting not only the action of each character but the settings as well.

WELL DONE Ms. Maas, well done. Can’t wait to pick up Crown of Midnight.

It’s an amazing series! I’ve read the first two books which were really wonderful and I have decided to wait until all the books are released so I can binge read it because it’s worth all the wait. :)
