Welcome to Shadowhunter Academy by Cassandra Clare

“After living as a Mundane and a Vampire, Simon never thought he would become a Shadowhunter, but today he begins his training at Shadowhunter Academy.”
I have a long history with the Shadowhunter books with lots of mixed feelings. I love The Infernal Devices series to the ends of the earth but The Mortal Instruments series makes me want to punch someone. I liked the first three books in TMI but after that, I became bored with the series and I personally think it went down hill real fast. I’ve yet to read City of Heavenly Fire and I learned within a few pages of Welcome to Shadowhunter Academy, was a big mistake. After months of successfully avoiding spoilers, I’ve been spoiled. Big time. I didn’t know that WTSA was still in the same circle as TMI. It is! So, make sure you’ve read all of The Mortal Instruments before reading Welcome to Shadowhunter Academy. That being said, the following has spoilers for City of Heavenly Fire.
I’ve never been a fan of Simon. I’ve never liked him and I’ve wanted to punch him in the face multiple times though out TMI. I didn’t know that this book was about him so imagine my surprise.
The writing is, of course, great. Cassie Clare is an amazing writer with crazy world building skills. I will always love her writing.
But, this book is dragging out TMI even more than it already was. I’m beyond sick of the characters (expect Alec and Magnus) and it just needs to stop.
For 78 pages, this book is expensive and I feel like the publisher is just wanting more money. I feel like, as a reader, I’m being taken advantage of.
Overall, I’m not impressed with this book and I won’t be continuing this series. I love Cassie Clare but this needs to stop. No more characters from TMI and no more Shadowhunter books.
